New Training Requirements

IMERT News - 2/2/2009

Like many organizations, IMERT conducts critical internal assessments of our operations.  The goal of performing these assessments is to enhance our capabilities to meet our mission, as well as to refine our operational process to provide a reliable and systematic framework in order to provide the highest caliber of patient care possible. We are pleased to announce some significant changes that we believe will result in an improvement of overall team operations.  These changes affect many of our team policies and procedures so please read this letter carefully. As you know from previous communications, team administration and chain of command have been reorganized to better reflect clear lines of responsibility within a patient care framework.

We have established some core competencies that will be required for ALL team members who wish to be considered deployment ready. The one absolutely required competency is the Deployment Operations Course. All team members will have until July of 2010 to complete this course. Additionally, ALL team members are required to either attend a new Domestic Preparedness class (see the website for time and place) or complete the online Medfilms courses: Biological Terrorism, Radiological Terrorism, Decontamination for Healthcare, and Standard and Transmission-Based Precautions to fulfill your WMD requirement.  These courses are patient care focused and more pertinent to our mission. There are instructions on the website as to how to access these courses. If you encounter problems you can email Liz Lee (lizl@imert.org) or Sue Tysiak (suet@inventrn.org) or call the office at 630-495-6403.

We now have a training facility at the ILEAS training center in Urbana. We will be conducting not only medical response trainings but role-specific trainings; i.e. driving, communications, MST administration etc.  You will be getting emails as we get closer to the dates, but you should check the website for updates to make your planning easier. Likewise, we will be offering classes at the new ICEP offices at 3000 Woodcreek Drive, Suite 200, Downers Grove, IL.  Also, we will be offering CPR and First Aid courses to all non-medical team members. Certification in both will be required for non-medically trained team members.
