IMERT News - 7/10/2008
Sixty-four members of IMERT and INVENT were deployed to Quincy, Illinois, in June to provide medical support to the Illinois National Guard troops who were in the region laying sandbags to prevent additional flooding. During the 12-day deployment, which lasted from June 16 to June 28, the team saw 238 patients, sent 10 of those patients to the hospital for further care, and gave 175 tetanus shots.
ICEP members Moses Lee, MD, FACEP and Bernard Heilicser, DO, FACEP, FACOEP were among the three physicians deployed. Dr. Lee serves as Medical Director and Team Commander for IMERT. The deployed team also included 23 nurses, 16 paramedics, 12 EMTs, 3 allied health professionals, and 7 non-medical support staff.
After establishing base camp in Kinderhook, a small town just outside of Quincy, the team set up four “forward aid” stations along the Sny Island Levee for National Guard members to come to for inoculations and other medical care.
